Local Insurance is a tied insurance intermediary of Acorn Brokerage. Acorn Brokerage trading as Acorn Insurance is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Local Insurance are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. When we refer to ‘we’, ‘us’, or ‘our’ it refers to Local Insurance.

With this privacy statement we want to inform you of our policies regarding the use and disclosure of personal data we collect about you and other users. We want to be transparent and demonstrate our compliance with GDPR.

Purpose for processing your data?

For us to provide you with a general insurance quote we need to collect personal data. The personal data Local Insurance collect from you is passed on to Acorn Insurance who will contact you to provide you with a quotation in relation to the service you have requested.

We are committed to ensuring that the information we collect, and use is appropriate for this purpose, and does not constitute an invasion of your privacy.

Personal data is collected by Local Insurance to measure and/or understand the effectiveness of advertising we serve to you and others, and, where applicable to deliver relevant advertising to you. The personal data we require about you will be gathered and stored safely as set out below. Where personal data is provided relating to a third party to us, you must confirm that you have explained to them that you may have provided their personal data to us and that we will process such personal data in accordance with and for the purpose outlined below but not limited to:

Under what circumstances will Local Insurance contact me?

We will always aim not to be intrusive or ask irrelevant or unnecessary questions. The information you provide will be subject to rigorous measures and procedures to minimise the risk of unauthorised access or disclosure.

  • To advise and arrange any contracts of insurance or related transactions on your behalf with insurers / insurance providers.

Local Insurance will process (collect, store and use) the information you provide in a manner compatible with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will endeavour to keep your information accurate and up to date, and not keep it for longer than is necessary.

Who are we sharing your data with?

We may pass your personal data on to third-party service providers contracted to Local Insurance while dealing with you. Any third parties that we may share your data with are obliged to keep your details securely, and to use them only to fulfill the service they provide on your behalf. When they no longer need your data to fulfil this service, they will dispose of the details in line with Acorn Insurance procedures.

At any point while we are in possession of or processing your personal data, you, the data subject, have the following rights:

  • Right of access – you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.
  • Right of rectification – you have a right to correct data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Right to be forgotten – in certain circumstances you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records.
  • Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply to have a right to restrict the processing.
  • Right of portability – you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.
  • Right to object – you have the right to object to certain types of processing such as direct marketing, or use of your personal information based on our legitimate business interests (including profiling) or a public interest.
  • Right to object to automated processing, including profiling
  • Right to judicial review – if Local Insurance refuses your request under rights of access, we will provide you with a reason as to why.

All the above requests will be forwarded on should there be a third party involved as we have indicated in the processing of your personal data.

Retention of your personal data

Data will not be held for longer than is necessary for the purpose(s) for which they were obtained. Local Insurance will process personal data in accordance with Acorn Insurance retention schedule.


If you wish to make a complaint about how your personal data is being processed by Local Insurance or how your complaint has been handled, you

have the right to lodge a complaint directly with the supervisory authority and the Data Protection Officer / GDPR Owner.

Telephone Calls

All calls to Local Insurance are handled by Acorn Insurance. Calls to and from Acorn Insurance are recorded for training, quality and clarification purposes.


For marketing purposes, we may contact you in relation to special offers, competitions, products and services where we believe this will be of interest to you. If we send this information in the form of email, post, SMS, telephone or targeted online advertisements, we will only do so if you have provided consent.

We take steps to limit direct marketing to a reasonable and proportionate level. If we share use or share information with online sources such as websites, social media and information sharing platforms to help tailor and improve our services or communicate with your effectively, we will respect any permission you have set about how you would like your personal information to be used.
